JANUARY 2008

A mystery track diagram was the subject of the January quiz. Danny Scroggins cunningly removed all identifiable evidence in the image below.

Many people recognised the layout as being that at Newton Abbot, but there could only be one winner so a name was chosen at random - and Jason Baxter is the lucky one!

FEBRUARY 2008

In February we returned to "guess the age of the box", this time with signal boxes starting with the letter E.

Many people submitted the right answers (although a few were caught out with Evesham Road Crossing!) and Jon Dean has been chosen to be this month's winner.

MARCH 2008

A photograph of a lever collar, or reminder, was shown for March - all you had to do was identify its origins.

Brian Andrews was one of several people that correctly identified it as being of LNER origin, and has been chosen as this month's winner.

APRIL 2008

The April quiz returned to our ever popular Caption Competition, you werre asked to provide a caption for the picture of Alton box, with the signalman standing on the balcony looking very Victorian wearing a false beard.

A wide range of entries were received, many with nautical connections and a good one from Graham Hardy has been selected as the winning entry: "I see no trains".

MAY 2008

For May, I enlisted your help with the identification of a small signal box on a station that my wife photographed many years ago. We knew which line it was on (but didn't give that away in the quiz) but couldn't pin down which station.

It would seem there are a lot of people out there who knew exactly where it was - it is Hever and a winner was chosen at random from the many entries received. Dave Middleton is the lucky winner.

A lot of entries were nearly right but only a handful pinned down all four. Of these, Tony Reese has been selected as the winner.

JULY 2008

John Penny came up with an intriguing question for the July quiz. He submitted a picture of a "mystery" signalbox, but you weren't fooled! No less than eighteen people identified it as Pinesway Junction on the Gartell Light Railway. The box originated at Wyke, incidentally.

The name of the winner pulled out of the hat for this month was Trevor Bartlett.
