This photograph shows clearly the slotted appearance of the German-style signals found in several European countries. As with those in Germany, the arms stand on the right-hand side of the signalpost,and have the "blob" shape at the end of the arm.
The "X" shape arms lower down the left-hand post indicate "Shunting Prohibited" meaning that the signal may be passed (when clear) by departing trains but not for shunting.
