Pinwherry box is of similar construction
to Kilkerran, but features a greater number of
divisions in the window panes. The boxes of the c1885 to c1904 period of the
Glasgow & South Western Railway were the only ones in which the glazing
extended up to the eaves. However, the roof was given a greater overhang to
give protection from bright sunlight. Most GSW boxes were of all-timber
construction.
A twenty lever frame controlled the layout here, which was primarily a country station with a large passing loop on the single line, between Barrhill and Girvan.
A general reduction in traffic saw the need for less loops on the
Stranraer route, and Pinwherry box was closed on 15th December 1991.
