North London Railway
Tappet lever frame
The North London Railway built its own frame at Bow Works from
1890. A few examples were based directly on the London & North Western's
Tumbler design, but the majority were quite
different. Apart from the use of the stirrup handle, these frames were more
akin to the Stevens tappet frames in
construction, and embodied straightforward tappet locking.
A fair number of these frames (and some of them quite sizeable)
were built and installed during the widening and improvements of the 1890s and
1900s.
The example illustrated here was at
Western Junction, Dalston, more
details of which will be found in the Photo Gallery. |
