In trying to reply, by both methods, to a post in the "Cornwall" thread tonight, I encountered the following rejection :

HTTP 501/HTTP 505

The reply was ultimately successful, but only by using two certain words in full, instead of abbreviation - ' C / L s ' [but without the intermediate spaces (abbrev'n. was to represent colour-lights') ].

I presume the problem bit represents some sort of web page or protocol, etc., code, hence the rejection?

Hi Steve,

There are some strong measures implemented to avoid automated abuse of the forum and the server generally which are over and above that of the forum software itself. I suspect the combination of characters you attempted to use are a combination that can be used by evil people to do evil things. It is rigged to give a non-committal reply so that they just give up and go elsewhere - being explicit with the reasoning would only encourage a server attack. It is very rare for these protection measures to affect normal use, but it looks like you have found one such occasion - sorry about that and glad you found the solution.
